“any milk is rosy” – Christian Bok’s bacteria

I don’t always make posts.

But when I do, I’m high on the bacteria I use to make poetry.

This is my analysis of Christian Bok using bacteria to make poetry.

First I give him two thumbs up. I used to think making poetry was something difficult. How wrong was I. Now I can just use old sandwiches I did not eat.

Second I give him two thumbs down. Before I thought only humans were the ones who could critique my poems. After his findings, I realize; no. You will see what I mean when you read this this quote from Bok.

Bök says, “The bacteria is not a poet, but a critic.”

This quote confuses me. I thought the bacteria was used to make poems, yet he clearly says it is not a poet but a critic.

I was confused once more when Bok said “It’s not meant to have any meaning or beauty.” I do not see why he did this then.

In the end I thought what he did was interesting, I enjoyed reading it. I just cant believe – “I worked on the project for over four years before making a breakthrough,” says Bök.

– Leave me some comments please 😐

I couldn’t agree more, this makes me feel like mr. Bok was just trying be the cool kid on the block. Well, cheers to you bacteria king.

  2. Hey!
I like your insight on Christian Bok’s work and I also found some of his ideas very puzzling. What intrigued me to comment on your post was that you included that he had worked on the project for over four years before making a breakthrough. I think this shows extreme dedication as he probably didn’t know if it would even work at the beginning of it. Since it is such a unique idea, I’m pretty sure he couldn’t just get on the internet and find tons of posts directing him how to make poetry from bacteria! I noticed your reaction to the time it took Bok because you said it surprised you. I think it is a good thing it took Bok so long to complete the work. This gave him a plethora of time to achieve the exact results he set out for and expressed all the ideas intended through his work. I’d like to hear your opinion on my thoughts.
Anyways, thanks for the post and nice work!

    • I do not understand why did he have to even let the bacteria critic on his poems? and what was the purpose of that? did he want to do a science experiment to see if bacteria know poems or not? I believe it could’ve been the shape? because I do not believe bacteria will speak the same language as we do!! and Also poems were to give message to people or show people how you feel or write your feeling, but now we have to get a microscope and see how the bacteria reacted to that certain poem?

  3. I really liked what you done there with your analysis of Christian Bok’s. I found his points very difficult to understand as well. Is hard to get his point; but is wonderful what he have done with these bacteria to create poetry. Imagine if sometimes is hard to create simple poetry, how hard it must be to come up with such idea?

  4. This post is great! I love how you kept me glued to the screen. Your review was funny and witty yet it’s informative and to the point. And your comment about sandwiches, lol! I found it a bit hard to analyse Bok’s poetry, especially this one. He seems like an intelligent man but not everyone can keep up! I would rather stick to pen and paper, this seems really difficult.
